About Us and our Baby Cakes

Hello!  My name is Sharon-Elaine, I'm married to Derek and we have one son, who was born May 2007.  I began making baby cakes after making a bouquet of baby sock roses for a friend who was expecting.  I wasn't 100% happy with the roses, so I went searching around the internet looking for more detailed instructions. It was during this search that I discovered diaper cakes and nappy cakes.  Further investigation got me thinking about making one, so I gathered together the ingredients for a cake, had a go and I was hooked!   The baby cakes allow me to express my creativity in a way that my other business, The Lingerie Store (www.thelingeriestore.co.uk) cannot.  I have concentrated on making my baby cakes in such a way that it is not immediately obvious that the basis of the cake is disposable nappies.  I endeavour to 'hide' the nappies underneath artistically arranged baby clothes, accessories and toys.  I hope you like them!

Our Cake Ingredients

The birth of my son gave me the opportunity to explore the wonders of nappies and baby clothes.  I have tried most brands of nappies, and have found myself using only Huggies and Pampers now.  They fit well, don't seem to leak and have lovely designs on them, especially Huggies with their Disney designs.  That's why we use Huggies nappies in our baby cakes.  If Pampers are preferred, we are happy to use these in place of Huggies at no extra charge.  We are also happy to use Eco Nappies, but there is a small surcharge for these, as they are more expensive.

The clothing we use comes from various sources.  Our classic cakes have bodysuits, sleepsuits and other clothing from Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Matalan. My own experience shows that these brands are well made and they wash well, I use them on my own little boy.  The soft toys used on classic cakes are various brands including Tesco, Asda, Disney, Takinou, Boyds Baby and Mothercare. Our luxury cakes contain clothing from Marks & Spencer, Next, Debenhams, Mothercare and designer brands such as Pitter Patter, Savannah Baby, Babygear, Deana & Kyle and Puddles & Bubbles.  Luxury cakes have soft toys by Disney, Takinou, Boyds Baby, Mothercare and character brands.

The toiletries inside the cakes are generally Johnson & Johnson, but we do sometimes use other brands including organic ranges.  The individual cake ingredients will tell you which brand of toiletries are inside that particular cake.
